Ryan and a Roman Road
Not sure when it was built but I´m guessing it´s been awhile since the pothole repair crew has been around to mantain it. One of three roads that they built to get them through the mountains of Madrid!

One thing about the Romans. They did not fuck around when they built a road, did they?
To them, "right of way" meant the way they were going. And the way they went was STRAIGHT.
Another cool thing about Roman Roads (literally) was the way they planted shade trees along the route for the troops. Of course, you can still see this practice today all across Europe.
Yet another cool thing (at least in the UK) is that if you buy the Ordnance maps, the old Roman roads are listed. Was your road on the map?
